Background:

Maria Venus Raj was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2010 on March 06, 2010 at the Araneta Coliseum, Manila, Philippines. Just 3 weeks after her coronation on March 29, 2010, she was stripped of her title due to “inconsistencies” on her birth certificate. Helen Nicolette Henson replaced her a few days later. Her sudden dethronement caused uproar among her Filipino supporters all over the Philippines and overseas. Many expressed their disappointments through online petitions and signature campaigns in popular Internet media such Facebook, Twitter, forums and blogsites. Supporters began sending letters to the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Incorporated demanding her reinstatement and are willing to go as far as the Miss Universe Organization so much that they reversed their previous stand citing “humanitarian reasons” on April 10, 2010.

Her exotic look was a product of Filipino and Indian bloodlines. Her parents, a Filipina mother and an Indian father met in Doha, Qatar where she was born. Later, her mother took her to Camarines Sur, Philippines when her parents separated. Venus Raj graduated “cum laude” from her bachelor’s degree in Communications Arts at Bicol University in Albay, Philippines. Before winning her crown, she worked as an Information Assistant for a Philippine government bureau and a fashion model as well. She is expected to represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe 2010 pageant.

2. Marelisa Gibson – Miss Venezuela 2010 -Miss Universe 2010 Top 15 Contestant

Background:

Marelisa Gibson Villegas was crowned Miss Venezuela 2009 on September 24, 2009. She also was awarded “Best Face” during the competition. Marelisa is taking up a degree in Architecture at the Central University of Venezuela, in Caracas, Venezuela. Of Swedish-Mexican descent, she is fluent in 3 languages; Spanish, English and French. Since 1952, Marelisa became the 6th Miss Miranda to win in the Miss Venezuela pageant. She cites Theatre and Photography as some of her interests. Venezuela is a true powerhouse in the Miss Universe. The country’s dominance was proven once more as they made history last year for being the only country to win successively in the Miss Universe. Can they do it again this time with Marelisa? She is known as Pook Look among her family and friends. Currently, she’s taking up a law degree at the Assumption University of Thailand. 7. Qory Sandioriva – Miss Indonesia 2010 -Miss Universe 2010 Top 15 Contestant

Qory Sandioriva was crowned Miss Indonesia 2009 by her predecessor Zivanna Letisha Siregar on October 9, 2009. She is considered as the youngest ever winner of Miss Indonesia up to this date as well as first woman from Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province to win in the pageant. She completed her high school education at Al-Azhar School, one of Indonesia’s most prestigious islamic schools. She’s currently taking up a degree majoring in French literature in the University of Indonesia. Qory will be the official representative of Indonesia in the Miss Universe 2010 pageant.


8. Giuliana Zevallos – Miss Peru 2010 -Miss Universe 2010 Top 15 Contestant
